Curriculum - Autumn Term
This term we started by looking at our significant author, Roald Dahl. We have then explored 'Esio Trot' and written a variety of texts about tortoises including instructions and non-chronological reports. We have now moved onto 'George's Marvellous Medicine' and our writing and reading skills will be inspired by this novel.
So far we have covered place value which involves understanding the make up of numbers. We have now moved onto addition and subtraction. We have been practicing the skills of adding and subtracting ones, tens and hundreds and also solving reasoning problems linked to this.
Our next topic will be multiplication and division - it will be greatly useful for children to be practicing their times tables regularly!
Our current topic is animals including humans. In this we will be studying how to keep healthy by eating a balance diet, skeletons and the bones they are made up of and the function and purpose of muscles.
In Geography we are exploring the local area and asking ourselves how Alwoodley has changed over time. This includes our fieldwork to Adel Woods where we discover the sites of some famous local landmarks such as the Babbling Baby and 7 Arches.
Our significant author.
This year, Year 3 will be looking at the life and work of Roald Dahl.
